Today was our second day at our worksites. Our crew (thirteen of us from First Pres.) is working at UGM New West (Union Gospel Mission). We've been hanging out with the homeless people that come for free bread, fruit, soup at 10:30, and a meal at 12:45. We help to serve the food and clean up the room by sweeping, mopping up, and wiping tables down. The main thing we've been doing, though, is hanging out with the people there. We've met and talked with a bunch of really cool people. Some have been in Canada their whole lives, others were from random places (like Vincent, from Hungary.) It was really cool to simply love on people and show them that we don't see them as "the homeless." We see them as people, just like we see each other. Tomorrow and Thursday we'll go back and do the same things, as well as a fifteen minute "chapel" that will probably include a short message and a song.
Tonight, we're heading to "Street Church" which is an awesome ministry that we went to last year. We'll be holding a worship service and helping to serve a meal to those in the Downtown East Side. We'll also be going on a short prayer walk to see the hopelessness here and to pray for it. We're having a great time so far this week serving in God's name, hanging out with His people, and learning more about them. We're all looking forward to seeing some of the same face again tomorrow.

thank you so much for taking the time to fill us in on your experiences. It was really great to read about your day and the people you are reaching out to. I'm sure it is very eye opening to hear their stories of hope and dispair. The photos are great, too!
